A Study of the Gravitational Wave Form from Pulsars

چکیده
The direct detection of gravitational radiation (GR) from astrophysical sources is one of the most important outstanding problems in experimental gravitation today. The construction of large laser interferometric gravitational wave detectors like the LIGO, VIRGO , LISA, TAMA 300, GITO 6000 and AIGO is opening a new window for the study of a vast and rich variety of nonlinear curvature phenomena. The network of gravitational wave detectors can confirm that GW exist and by monitoring gravitational wave forms give important information on their amplitudes, frequencies and other important physical parameters. A prototype of continuous astrophysical sources is a pulsar. A variety of instabilities cause deformations from spherical symmetry giving rise to GWs. The

Timing stability of millisecond pulsars and prospects for gravitational-wave detection
Analysis of high-precision timing observations of an array of ∼20 millisecond pulsars (a socalled “timing array”) may ultimately result in the detection of a stochastic gravitational-wave background. The feasibility of such a detection and the required duration of this type of experiment are determined by the achievable rms of the timing residuals and the timing stability of the pulsars involve...
متن کاملA note on gravitational wave lensing
In a recent paper (Ruffa 1999) it was proposed that the massive black hole at the Galactic center may act as a gravitational lens focusing gravitational wave energy to the Earth. Considering the gravitational wave signal emitted by galactic spinning pulsars, an enhancement in the gravitational wave intensity by a factor of a few thousand is found. For galactic and extra-galactic sources the int...
متن کاملEstimation of Parameters of Gravitational Waves from Pulsars
Pulsars are one of the primary sources of gravitational-waves that can be observed by detectors that are currently under construction . The data analysis involved to do the search for such sources implies a very heavy computational cost . Here we analyse this problem using a simple model of the gravitational-wave signal from a pulsar. A detailed summary of the current understanding of the gravi...
متن کاملThe North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves
1 Summary The North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves (NANOGrav) is a consortium of astronomers whose goal is the creation of a galactic scale gravitational wave observatory sensitive to gravitational waves in the nHz – µHz band. It is just one component of an international collaboration involving similar organizations of European and Australian astronomers who share the sa...
متن کاملThe Spin Distribution of Millisecond X-ray Pulsars
The spin frequency distribution of accreting millisecond X-ray pulsars cuts off sharply above 730 Hz, well below the breakup spin rate for most neutron star equations of state. I review several different ideas for explaining this cutoff. There is currently considerable interest in the idea that gravitational radiation from rapidly rotating pulsars might act to limit spin up by accretion, possib...
